Barrow Crime and Antisocial Behaviour Forum

On Saturday, I held a public meeting for Barrow upon Soar residents to discuss their concerns about local crime and antisocial behaviour (ASB). I brought together the police and Charnwood Borough Council to join me on the panel.

Thank you to everyone that attended or shared their views online. I really appreciate our community taking the time (on a Saturday, too) to speak with me and the panel about your experiences, concerns and suggestions for the future of crime and policing in Barrow.

The key areas of concern were:

  • Speeding and road safety, especially around Melton Road, Grove Lane, Sileby Road, Breachfield Road and Cotes Road
  • Parking and traffic control
  • Anti-social behaviour (ASB) in specific areas of Barrow and the park
  • Youth crime, social media, phones in schools
  • Fly-tipping and litter
  • Clear reporting pathways and visible action

I’ll be:

  1. Writing to Leicestershire County Council Highways on the speeding, parking, traffic control and roads raised, pushing for action;
  1. Writing to Charnwood Borough Council on the ASB in the areas mentioned and fly tipping;
  1. Sharing information on how to report crime;
  1. Writing to and working with police on the ASB raised.
  1. I’ll be writing to the Department for Education for a response and information around the use of phones in schools and phone lockers.
  1. And I’ll be sharing information on local youth groups for young people in Barrow.

Everyone deserves to feel safe in our community, and I will keep working to help us do so. I’ll keep you updated as this work progresses.

I’ve held a series of Crime and Antisocial Behaviour Forums – public meetings with the police, council and me on the panel in Loughborough Storer Ward, Shepshed in December, and most recently in Barrow. I’ll be holding more across our area this year, so do keep an eye out.
